General information
The Cumbria Clock Company Ltd, which was established in 1990 and is situated in the small village of Dacre in the Lake District National Park.
From these workshops the Company has undertaken several repairs and restorations to some of the most prestigious church clocks, as well as many others in towns and villages throughout the United Kingdom.
The Company are responsible for the maintenance of the country’s oldest clock at Salisbury Cathedral, have undertaken the repairs and automatic winding of what is considered the most important astronomical clock at Hampton Court Palace, as well as major restorations at Canterbury, Durham, Hereford, Gloucester, Worcester and Manchester Cathedrals.
In 2007 the Company manufactured and installed a temporary drive unit to the Westminster Clock better known as Big Ben whilst the restoration work to the mechanical clock movement was being undertaken, thus ensuring the Worlds most famous clock still indicated the correct time.
In 2010, we were commissioned to undertake a comprehensive overhaul of the clock movements of the Royal Liver Building Clock in Liverpool, which drive the countries largest dials, being 25ft (7.62 metres) in diameter.
In 2012, we manufactured and installed the world’s largest internal bell hammer, which struck the Olympic Bell and started the London 2012 Games.
