The Royal Sportsman, with Snowdonia as a backdrop, is Porthmadog's premier hotel, the only full-service quality hotel in the town. It is centrally located and one of the top four AA & Visit Wales 3 star hotels in all of North Wales; it is considered to be one of the very best in Snowdonia and with lots of character.
The North Wales hotel is included in the AA's Britain's Best Hotel Guide, has been awarded by the AA 4* for overall quality and an 82% merit score, based on the high quality scores achieved, above the UK average.
The Hotel is aiming to become THE place to eat in Gwynedd based on word of mouth and customer reviews for the quality, quantity and so value for money of its food! All dishes on the daily menu are freshly cooked and served to order using only the finest, freshest local ingredients.

The Royal Sportsman is a family owned and managed hotel, a place of genuine warmth, a comfortable, 'home from home,' hotel providing a traditional and relaxed style, friendly service and hospitality at the heart of its business. Our close-knit team maintains the intimacy, attention to detail and extended family atmosphere for which the hotel is renowned.
This hotel was built in 1862, originally as a traditional coaching inn, with local Blaenau Ffestiniog slate still visible from the outside. It retains many of its original features such as the stone and slate fireplaces in Gelert's Bar and the lovely lounge.
The hotel has 28 warm and comfortable en-suite bedrooms, both standard and larger rooms to suit all sizes and pockets. Free WIFI is available throughout the hotel and there is also free but limited on-site covered parking, on a first come basis except for Blue Badge holders. As a family hotel, babies and children of all ages are particularly welcome and, and being 'pet friendly,' so are pets in designated rooms and the bar We also provide drying and storage facilities for golfers, cyclists and walkers.
The Royal Sportsman is neither a pretentious, boutique or fashionable hotel. We try to simply be a very good honest traditional hotel, well managed and staffed by a team that cares about its customers and guests. Feedback and suggestions from them is positively welcomed and a key part of every facet.
Centrally located, the hotel is found at the quieter end of the High Street in a town often described as the “Gateway To Snowdonia". It is very close to the harbour, Ffestiniog & West Highland Railways and all shops which are within about five minutes walking distance.
Porthmadog is the perfect location from which you can explore the Cambrian Coast Wales Path, the Llyn Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Snowdonia National Park.
