Plymouth Fisheries at Sutton Harbour is viewed by many as the fisheries hub of the region and one of the most important in the UK. We sustain over 600 direct and indirect jobs and sell more than 6,000 tonnes of fish every year – of which 75 per cent arrives by road from fishermen across Wales and the South West who’ve landed their catch elsewhere but send it to Plymouth to ensure it will sell for the best price.

They do this because Plymouth Fisheries is unique in the region by offering an electronic auction system, operated by Plymouth Trawler Agents, which ensures fishermen working from smaller ports without an electronic auction system can still secure top prices for their catch. This makes us a very popular place to sell and distribute your catch from.

We continue to attribute our success to our belief in an industry that has been at the heart of Plymouth for many hundreds of years, as well as our close partnership with Plymouth Trawler Agents.

Pete Bromley, The Plymouth Fisheries Manager and Harbour Master, spent many years working on fishing vessels, which enables him to fully understand the needs of the catching sector. Since the opening of the fisheries complex in 1995, the aim has been to provide a facility where he would have personally wanted to land his catch and make it a place that he would be happy to work from as a fisherman.

Sutton Harbour Holdings plc’s ongoing investment in developing Sutton Harbour and improving the overall facilities at Plymouth Fisheries has led to the start of a £1.2 million ice production and chilling facility which should be completed in Spring 2015. The new ice production facility will enable Plymouth Fisheries to run four separate machines capable of producing 30 tonnes of ice over a 24hr period.

Plymouth Fisheries is located at the entrance to Sutton Harbour near the National Marine Aquarium. It can accommodate vessels up to 5.5 metre draft and has 110 metres of landing quays, operating 24 hours a day. As well as ice, fuel and water are also available on site.
