General information
The Friends of Farthing Downs is a local Group of volunteers in Coulsdon, Surrey who work to promote and protect Farthing Downs. Farthing Downs is a premier destination for woodland, open downland and views of local and distant landmarks. There are many signposted walks and bridleways. It is an ancient chalk grassland and has Ancient Schedule Monument status to protect Saxon burial mounds, Celtic field boundaries and neolithic track-ways. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is a safe haven for endangered wildlife and rare flowers. The Friends work with and support the City of London (who own the site) to improve public facilities. Among recent projects sponsored by Friends of Farthing Downs are new Information Boards, printing of the Nature Trail booklet and planting of flower beds at Coulsdon South Station.
