National Trust Museum Company Information
General information
The Avebury Stone Circle is the largest in the world and Silbury Hill is the largest prehistoric mound in Europe. Along with the West Kennet and Beckhampton Avenues, West Kennet Long Barrow, Windmill Hill, Silbury Hill, the Palisade Enclosures and the Sanctuary they form part of the Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Monuments World Heritage Site. Together they form an outstanding Neolithic and Bronze Age monumental landscape giving a truly unique insight into our prehistoric past.
Avebury is also part of a living landscape as the Henge and Stone Circle surround part of Avebury village, including a church and a pub.
The National Trust owns 647ha of the Avebury WHS and 827ha of the Stonehenge landscape and manages and acts as guardian for much of this land, along with English Heritage, Historic England, the Ministry of Defence, Natural England and the RSPB.
