Diesel particulate removal DPF Removal

What is a DPF? Well new modern diesels don’t smoke like they did years ago! Well they do but! The plan was to catch all the black soot in this device while you drive around town then blow it out all in one go in the countryside. Bottom line is that soot has to go somewhere, so what is so environmentally green about dumping an entire month worth of soot on the side of the motorway.

Do you remember seeing that quite new looking car belting down the motorway with what looked like a blown engine? Chances are that the engine was spot on. Chances are the ecu was performing a regeneration cycle!

On modern DPF equipped diesel engine the regeneration cycle is not much more complicated than pumping in vast quantities of diesel into the exhaust side of the engine, far more than could ever be burnt properly, in an effort to heat the DPF up enough to effectively blast the contents of the DPF out the back of the car and into the air vents of the poor driver following it.
Why do DPF’s block up there are two most likely reasons for a blocked dpf.
The first is the most likely, that is your journey type and driving style.

The DPF or "soot catcher" has been doing its job properly. But the chances are if its been a long while since you have maintained a constant speed, on a decent run in top gear the ecu will not have cleaned the dpf out.

End result of lots of town driving and simple commuting to and from work, dropping the kids off at school etc and a DPF that is unable to clear itself.
You can try going on a long run, but it’s not easy to go down the motorway while it’s in limp mode.
The second reason why the dpf has failed could also be it has simply come to the end of its natural life. Each regeneration will leave a very fine layer of ash residue behind, and ultimately this will become the cause of the blockage.

Further forced regeneration cycles will not clear this. These units are a serviceable item and will need replacing sooner or later.

Well... you can either replace it or remove it. If however you have this problem because of your urban driving habits your likely to just repeat the problem with the next one, which will cost four figures from the dealer.

However, you can remove it and we have done so many times on these vehicles over the last year or so.
Removal is considerably more cost effective than replacement, and it’s a permanent fix, and yes it will still pass an MOT.
Can I just take the DPF out.
Well.. No. often there is a serious amount of work to remove it for which you would need the car raised from the ground and a number of workshop specialist tools.
What is dpf delete? Once the DPF has been removed, the engines management system has to have the regeneration process removed from it.
Are you having DPF problems is your care in limp mode with no power. We can fix them!!! DPF replacement costs excess of £1000 and they are made to last 65,000miles or 3 years. DPF removal can cost from £300. DPF faults can cause Excessive or incomplete dpf regenerations causing contamination of the oil with diesel. If your oil level is rising, this could be diesel in the oil.
We recommend you check the oil and change it before bringing your vehicle to us.

We check your oil level before we start and if we find the level is way above the full mark we ask that you let us change the oil.

Filters

A well known fact is that the more cold air you can force into a car's engine the better, mainly to increase horsepower, acceleration and torque. This is highlighted at track days where you see some cars driving around the track with only one headlight, again to increase air flow.
There are three options available for upgrading these - induction kits, panel filters and cold air intake systems. Many people choose to purchase and fit an induction kit or Cone Filter as its commonly known, Replacing the more restrictive air box and creating more room in the engine bay.
The next option is a product known as a Panel Air Filter. This is a direct replacement for the manufacturer's standard filter and slots straight into the air box.
Although the sound isn't as obvious as the cone filter, the engine's breathing is still vastly improved over the restrictive manufacturer's equivalent and on average, they are also cheaper than an induction kit due to having less parts and requiring less time to fit.
It is a straight forward job consisting of unscrewing the air box taking out the standard air filter, dropping in the upgrade, and screwing the lid back down!
The final option is a cold air intake system. In a way, this is the best option of the three but the most expensive! It is basically a cone filter, encased in an outside shell therefore reducing heat build-up and allowing cooler air into your engine.
K&N are one of the best known producers of upgrade air filters but we can also supply filters of all types from manufacturers that include Piper cross and BMC, a cold air hose can help to increase the performance of your car. This can be highly effective when combined with a cone filter.
