Medway Community Centre Company Information
General information
The New Medway Centre was built to replace the old prefabricated Medway Centre that had to be demolished in 1992. After years of fundraising, many meetings to gain planning permission and a £148,000 grant from the Rural Development Commission, work began by a team of local volunteers, mainly pensioners, to build the new Centre in February 1998.
Eighteen months and thousands of hours of voluntary labour later, the Centre was officially opened by the Duchess of Devonshire on the 17th July 1999.
For the first time in many years, Bakewell at last had a purpose-built centre for the community. The Centre is owned and managed by it's members and volunteers and employs an Administrator.
The Centre relies on volunteer support to assist with the management, maintenance and fundraising.
New Volunteers are always welcome!
