General information

Here at Applegarth - our focus is on caring for the individual - always treating them with dignity, and promoting independence. With this in mind, individual care plans are in place ensuring that all care provided is very much person centred. The size of our homes also means we can offer a real feel of home away from home.

We also understand the importance of keeping hold of pets - and so Applegarth care home is a pet friendly home; a member of the Cinnamon Trust with a five star rating. We also provide long term care, and respite care is available for those in need. The accommodation - extended in 2017 - now includes twenty comfortable rooms all with en-suite facilities. The building has a TV lounge, a light and airy dining room, and a communal shower and bathroom, as well as a beautiful enclosed garden.

The home also has a sun lounge, which provides access out into the homes garden. Here at Applegarth maintaining residents dignity and promoting independence is important to us, as is providing emotional and physical support to both our residents and their families. To maintain this, 24 hour call bell systems are allocated in all the rooms and throughout the home to allow residents to call for assistance at all times.

We also have a key-worker system is in place, allowing each resident their own dedicated Key-worker. With this, personalised care plans are in place which are reviewed monthly by the allocated Key-worker. This ensures a continuing high level of care for each individual.

Our local Burnham doctors pay a weekly visit to the care home and each resident is seen at least once a month. Local District Nurses visit on request and yearly eye tests are carried out within the home.

Chiropody visits every 6 weeks & weekly visits from our hairdresser.

Two fully trained chefs prepare lovely home cooked meals to cater for all tastes & dietary needs. Menus are monitored regularly with residents & families completing feedback sheets into what meals they would like to see on the menus.

Alternative choices are given with each meal, as well as a soft options for those with eating difficulties.

Visual menus are provided for the dining tables with both words & images showing the food selections available to choose throughout the day including Breakfast, Lunch and Supper

Special cutlery/equipment provided.

We are also delighted to offer;
- A varied activity programme with our in-house Activity Co-Ordinator, tailored to cater for different tastes. Activities can include Sing-a-Longs, Card and Musical Bingo, Quizzes, Board and Parlour Games, Exercise sessions, Reminiscence, Crosswords, Discussion Groups and much more which all takes place throughout the week (the weekends are dedicated to family/friend visits and care assistant based one-to-one time) Classic Film and Musical matinees/DVD Concerts/CD of well-loved music are also available throughout the week plus there is always a selection of independent and supported 1:1 activities available to chose from including Manicures, Jigsaws, Puzzle Books, Word Searches, Colouring, Knitting, Arts and Crafts and much much more...

We can also provide seasonal trips out and encourage family members and friends to get involved by joining us on these trips or by continuing to visit the shops/restaurants/garden centres if this was something the individual residents used to get pleasure from. Cabaret entertainments & family events/seasonal festivals and parties/special celebrations are also always a part of Applegarth life and with the help of our Residents Entertainment Fund - which gratefully receives donations from our generous benefactors - we will continue to support and encourage all of our residents in the individual and group pursuit of their pleasures, aspirations, hobbies and past times.

- We are members of The Cinnamon Trust (since 2006) awarded a 5* rating since as being pet friendly. Beloved, well-behaved pets are welcomed to reside at Applegarth as many animals have been proven as beneficial for the health and well-being of care home residents; they are always welcome at our Home.
