Downswood is situated two miles from Maidstone, the county town of Kent.
It lies in the extreme north west of the Otham and bounded to the north by the River Len.

Downswood was originally farmers fields and fruit orchards as far back as the 1950's where upon it was sold and became The Spot Quarries bordering on the well known Spot Lane Bearsted.
This Quarry was used for the extraction of Kent Ragstone for road building. It was disused by the late 1970's. When finally sold to developers it was literally a hole in the ground and much work was needed to convert this land ready for building approx. 1000 homes.
