Hancocks fine jewellers, founded by Josiah Hancocks opened its Manchester doors in 1860. Josiah began as a clock winder to the gentry, visiting the homes and mansions of the nobility and industrial barons on his weekly round. His business prospered, enabling him to open a shop in Picadilly, later he moved to 29 King Street still occupied by Hancocks today. To this day, Hancocks is still in private ownership, a rarity in these times of constant change.

Hancocks choose the 4 highest diamond colours D, E, F and G. D to F are colourless diamonds, G is near colourless (rare white). The clarity scale determines the inclusions in the stone, again the 4 highest clarities are chosen – IF (internally flawless) VVS1 and VVS2 (very very slightly included) and VS1 (very slightly included). These high standards also apply to the stones cut, proportions, polish and symmetry.

Hancocks offer superb quality diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald set jewellery. An extensive range of ladies and gents wedding rings in 18 ct gold, platinum, titanium and palladium, in plain and diamond set designs, both classical and contemporary.

Hancocks provide the highest standard of personal service, accompanied by a cleaning and checking service, which is of course free of charge. Diamonds purchased from ourselves can be upgraded; the customer will receive the full amount that had originally been paid for the item.
