General information

Established in 1999 and based at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester Food Centre (formerly Manchester Food Research Centre) is a consultancy specialising in food and nutrition.

We connect food and drink organisations with academics from Manchester Met and technical experts from across the entire University’s knowledge network to provide commercial research services, develop future opportunities, and solve business problems.

Our specialists have academic knowledge, industry experience and technical expertise and work with a wide range of clients in food and nutrition science and technology, nutrition and dietetics, sport and exercise nutrition, and workplace safety and health. They can advise your organisation on projects from taste testing to legislation, and offer industry training, technical and consulting services, and strategic advice.

At the Manchester Food Centre, our facilities for practical work are of a standard found in industry. We have a wide range of pilot-scale food manufacturing equipment and facilities including chemistry laboratories, a 10-booth sensory taste panel suite, development kitchens, and an industrial standard bakery.

Our services include providing significant technical resources to undertake technical and scientific analysis, specialist facility and equipment hire for physiological testing and performance, and the provision of both long- and short-term work placements.
