General information

WKPS is a non-political environmental pressure
group, registered charity 261992. We have
three main aims:
• To protect and enhance the character and
environment of the Wealden towns, villages
and countryside
• To safeguard the amenities of the Weald of
Kent
• To cultivate a wider interest in and care for
the beauty, history and character of the
Weald of Kent

LONG-THREATENED NEW PLANNING
RULES ARE NOW IN EFFECT. WKPS MUST
WORK HARDER THAN EVER TO SEE THAT
ANY FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE
WEALD IS SYMPATHETIC. WE MUST
PREVENT DEVELOPERS RUNNING RIOT
OVER THIS PRECIOUS COUNTRYSIDE. WE
HAVE TO SAVE THE CHARM AND
CHARACTER OF THE WEALD FOR FUTURE
GENERATIONS.

WHAT WE DO
WKPS’ dedicated team of planning scrutineers
examines every planning application that
comes before the three local authorities (LPAs)
of Ashford, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells
throughout the year. We bring our collective
expertise and up-to-date detailed knowledge of
the new planning laws to bear, most especially
on the larger applications that can threaten to
change the nature and character of life within a
town or village. Our team attends many public
meetings throughout the Weald called to make
local people aware of what is being planned for
their town/village. We then submit detailed
responses to the relevant LPA giving our views,
either opposing a proposal altogether or
suggesting modifications to reduce/mitigate its
impact.
We also hold public meetings and publish by
email and online monthly bulletins to keep our
members fully updated.

Our credibility, experience and knowledge have
proved invaluable since we began in 1960. We are all volunteers and need active members to give force to our efforts.

WKPS’ Weald of Kent covers the towns and
villages of: Appledore, Benenden, Bethersden,
Biddenden, Boughton Malherbe, Charing,
Chart Sutton, Cranbrook, East Sutton, Egerton, Frittenden, Great Chart, Goudhurst, Hawkhurst, Headcorn, High Halden, Hothfield, Iden Green, Kenardington, Kilndown, Kingsnorth, Little Chart, Newenden, Pluckley, Rolvenden, Rolvenden Layne, St Michael’s,
Sandhurst, Shadoxhurst, Sissinghurst,
Smarden, Stone in Oxney, Stone in Ebony,
Sutton Valence, Tenterden, Ulcombe, Westwell,
Wittersham and Woodchurch.
