History of the Practice
Many of you may have noticed that our logo has the motif “Since 1737”, the Practice was founded by William Roughton, a son of a well-known Kettering family, when he qualified as a doctor. The last of the Roughton Doctors was Dr James Roughton who was joined by Dr A G Tolputt in 1898. Between the wars they practised from a house on the corner of Eskdail Street and Montagu Street.
In 1954 the Practice moved to a purpose built surgery in Linden Avenue. The names of Dr Pigott, Dr Barthels and Dr Harlow are remembered with affection from this period. In the early 1980’s Dr Tom Ormerod arranged to acquire two new sites and plans were drawn up for new modern medical centres. In 2001 additional space was required and the additional two storey extension at Linden Avenue was completed. In 2008 the old Ise Village building was demolished to make way for the multi-use building in use today.
In 2015 there were further building works, which has provided us with refurbished consulting rooms and of course the addition of an onsite pharmacy. The refurbishment works and other changes recently completed will hopefully see us able to provide care for our patients for some years.
