Exley Head Pre-School

General information

"The Pre-school is based under Exley Head Methodist church on Wheathead Lane Keighley and is in the voluntary sector. We are a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance. The area that the pre-school resides in is residential area and is close to a the local primary school Nessfield. We are open Monday to Friday 9.00am – 12.00am and provide 26 places per session for children aged 2 ½ - 5 years old. The times only change due to the numbers of children who wish to attend, we will then open afternoons 12.15pm - 3.15pm. The children who attend the setting come from a mixture of cultures and abilities.

The main entrance to the Pre-school can be found at the side of the church, through a side door and down two sets of steps (seven in total). We have three large rooms designated for different areas of provision. The first is specifically for water, paint, glue and sand; we call this the messy room. Room two is the main room and is a bright room with a carpeted area and a soft furnished area. This room also includes a book area, a computer, mark making area and together with child friendly furniture makes it easier for children to use so they are able to choose their own activities and to move around at free will. The downstairs room contains a role play kitchen and is accessed by three small steps. This room is large in appearance and can be used to house a climbing frame and large equipment such as bikes and cars. An accessible outside area is available with wet pour surfacing in green, a large chalk board and white board/painting board are attached to the safety gates. We also grow flowers and plant vegetables at various times of the year.

Eight members of staff are employed at the Pre-school. The Manager has just completed their Foundation Degree in Early Years and a further five members of staff have a Level 3 Childcare qualifications.
