International Safety Products (ISP) was founded in 1981 in Bootle, Merseyside. It has been the world’s largest manufacturer of inflatable marine lifejackets and other marine survival equipment, including immersion suits and liferafts, since 1997.
As well as life jackets the firm produces safety and survival clothing for police, armed forces across the globe. ISP is also the official UK importer of the ZODIAC range of SOLAS approved liferafts and rescue boats.
ISP manufactures more than 170,000 lifejackets a year. The firms output accounts for about 13 per cent of commercial lifejacket sales and 10 per cent of the leisure lifejacket markets. Its blue-chip clients include Shell, British Gas, Texaco and the Ministry of Defence.
ISP has been the only BP approved inflatable marine lifejacket manufacturer since 1998.
ISP has a turnover in excess of £7m a year. The firm employs 105 staff at its headquarters in Bootle and has additional factory premises in Birkenhead.
