We are embarking on a journey to change cancer care for the better, by expanding our services into the heart of Liverpool with the building of a new specialist cancer hospital, Liverpool’s first, in the centre of Liverpool, as well as making significant investments in our Wirral site.

This £157m investment, is huge news for cancer care in our area and is supported by the £15m New Cancer Hospital Appeal, and will mean;

• A new 11-floor specialist cancer hospital in the heart of Liverpool.
• Uniting care for blood cancer and solid tumour patients for the first time in the city.
• Significant investment in our hospital in Wirral.
• An eight bed dedicated teenage and young adult unit.
• 110 single en-suite rooms for inpatients.
• Rapid access to on-site intensive care, medical and surgical expertise.
• A huge leap forward for cancer research and clinical trials in our region.

Cancer is now the leading cause of death in the UK, with the current statistics showing that almost half of us will develop the disease over our lifetime; and for many cancers, the incidence and number of deaths are significantly higher in the Merseyside and Cheshire. That means people in our region have a very personal stake in the future of cancer care. It’s something that really matters.

This truly is a once in a generation opportunity to make huge progress in the fight against cancer. We want to do the best we can now for patients in the future, so that in years to come, our children and their children will have access to world-leading cancer treatment.

The new hospital is about more than a building. It’s about people coming together to do something incredible for people with cancer in Merseyside and Cheshire.
