Out of Hour Service
You should use the out of hours service if you need URGENT medical care that cannot wait until your GP surgery opens. The out of hours services is open from 6.30pm until 8am Monday to Friday and all day Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

If you require urgent medical advice during these times, please call 111.

A trained call handler takes details such as your name and contact details and will ask the reason for your call. Depending on your problem you may need to speak to a nurse or doctor, or they will call you back to conduct a telephone clinical assessment. At the end of the call you will be told the most appropriate course of action. This could be health advice over the telephone, an appointment for a face to face consultation, a home visit, to visit your GP when they are next open or a referral to an emergency service.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

The Loughborough Urgent Care Centre (UCC) provides a dedicated 24 hour, 7 day a week, 52 weeks per year. The UCC provides a timely treatment service for patients of all ages with less serious illness and injuries which require immediate care but do not require services of an Emergency Department (ED), providing unnecessary ED attendance. The UCC integrates minor injury services, offering X-ray facilities 7 days a week.

To ensure optimum care, the clinical team working within the UCC have access to 2 observation bays. These are used as ‘holding areas’ so that clinicians can spend more time observing patients or awaiting diagnostic testing if required in order to avoid an unnecessary admission into an acute hospital.
