Hopton School House

General information

The Hopton School House was built in 1730 with the funds left by Frances Hopton upon her death. With this, a trust established in her will administered the School House to provide education for children in the local area, The Hopton School Trust. The original school room was half of the ground floor of the School House and with the trust's income, this enabled the School Master and School Mistress to be paid their salary.

The School House is now a Grade 2 Listed building and with the Trust still owning the building they decided in 1999 to emark on an ambitious project to provide playgroup and out-of-school club facilities in the School House. Forming a partnership with Upper Cam Under Fives and securing funding from the New Opportunities Fund, as well as other organisations, work was undertaken to convert the building into a childcare facility. After a gap of many years, the School House reopened in 2002 and was restored to its original use as a childcare facility.

Hopton School House is a non profit making organisation and all the fee income is used to provide facilities and materials for the children that attend.
