Festival of the Plough Company Information
General information
Epworth’s Festival of the Plough, situated at High Burnham, DN9 1DD.
Formed 34 years ago as an idea by the late John Harris, Nev Lindley and including Harold Woolgar. The threesome were having a beer on a Thursday evening many years ago when John put forward the idea!
Thirty three years later, and following last year’s dastardly weather report by the BBC it had been agreed that the event this year will be held on Sunday 21 September 2014.
“Essentially it is a vintage ploughing match”, said President Harold Woolgar, “we proudly suggest that we have nearly as many horses ploughing as the Society does at the National, as well as perhaps 104 vintage tractors with the oldest being 1911 and the youngest being 1957”.
There is something for everybody who has an interest in the countryside, with live music, entertainment and family fun. This year with the assistance and advice of North Lincolnshire Council, the event is to be expanded to include interests for the members of the public who wish to gain much more direct information about where food comes from, and so a wide variety of additional items will be included over and above the steam threshing, the steam ploughing, the steam gallopers and many static exhibits, as well as the very substantial vintage car and vintage commercial vehicle display.
Proceeds from the event are donated to local charities and we have raised over £200,000 in 33 years.
