Forward thinking finance is at the heart of all Pioneer Mutual Credit Unions services, ensuring we provide affordable finance for everyone. Established in 1993 Pioneer Mutual Credit Union has continued to grow from strength to strength, establishing ourselves as a vital service to the local communities, especially in the current economic climate, which has built our reputation for providing quality, accessible, low cost financial services.

As we have grown our common bond has grown with us; and now all those who live or work within a G, PA or ML postcodes are eligible for membership. Our common bond grants 1.8 million residents access to our financial services and as a result means Pioneer Mutual now have one of the largest common bonds in Scotland.

Pioneer Mutual is part of the Cornerstone Transformation project funded by the DWP, which is an exciting opportunity and will involve significant change to the products the Credit Union offers; including an online platform, instant loans and operating as an agency bank.

Pioneer Mutual Credit Union is not-for profit run to benefit our members; members can save and borrow money at low rates of interest charged in a transparent, understandable manner.

What is a credit Union?

Credit unions are financial co-operatives owned and controlled by their members, offering flexible savings and loans as well as a range of other financial services. They differ from banks and other financial institutions in a number of significant ways as they operate as not-for-profit cooperatives run by volunteer board members, which allow credit unions to:

Credit unions, like other UK financial intuitions, are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), and protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

How to become a member?

Joining Pioneer Mutual Credit Union couldn’t be simpler, just complete our application.

The application should be submitted to ourselves alongside the applicable identification, detailed below. It costs just £6 to become a member of Pioneer Mutual Credit Union (£5 membership fee £1 share). Once you join there are no annual fees or hidden charges.
