The Green Team

General information

Established in 1998, The Green Team is a registered charity (number 1080247) based in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire.

We recruit volunteers and give them training in gardening and horticulture. They are properly introduced to their role and are provided with ongoing support and training opportunities -appropriate to their individual needs or abilities, which enable them to increase their confidence, skills and knowledge. Our Volunteers are treated as individuals and their experiences of volunteering vary enormously. Wherever possible we try to cater for the needs of everyone and if a little extra support is needed in whatever aspect, we can discuss that request. No experience is necessary.

If working for The Green Team is a stepping stone to employment, it offers the Volunteer invaluable skills which can be transferred to working life and the experience gained will help to build up career opportunities. We also offer references and can help with C.V's.

Our volunteers help us provide a low cost, reliable garden maintenance service to older or disabled people living within a ten mile radius of Goole. The ability to provide our service is 100% reliant on the generosity of the time and commitment that our Volunteers give. Without them this service would not be possible. We want to make sure that volunteering with us is as fulfilling as possible and will do our best to ensure that the volunteering experience is positive, meets individual aspirations and is enjoyable and rewarding.

Commercial gardening work is also undertaken.

We provide free, optional access to mini plots at our allotment site, enabling our Volunteers to grow their own produce. This encourages healthy eating and a sense of responsibility for their own space.

At our West Park site in Goole, we run a Table Top Gardening Group in our poly tunnel. This new group will plant seeds, raise flowers to pot on into containers and hanging baskets which will then be sold to the public to raise funds for our charity.

We offer work placement opportunities for individuals who are out of work or students attending college. We often have referrals from local agencies and organisations.

Many employers engage in Corporate Social Responsibility programmes which enable their staff to volunteer either individually or in a group. There are many benefits for the individual, the employer and the wider community. We are always glad to welcome new people to join our team. Volunteer time given can be anywhere from 3 hours per week up to 30 hours per week. How will you get involved?
