Matthews Hall Company Information
General information
The Topsham Community Association was established in the 1960s with two chief aims:
- To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Topsham and
- To establish and maintain a community centre.
The association is now a company limited by guarantee, but its aims remain the same. The directors are volunteers elected at an annual general meeting, to whom all residents of Topsham are most welcome.
What we do:
We hold the lease on Matthews Hall and the surrounding land and run it as a community centre for the benefit of residents. We receive a grant from Exeter City Council for the rent of the property, but all running costs are paid for by hall hire and activities organised by the Topsham Community Association (TCA).
We organise the Saturday Market, which is an important contributor to the income of the TCA, and a valued weekly event for the people of Topsham.
We also represent the residents of Topsham to Exeter City and Devon County Council on issues affecting life in the town. We repsond to consultations and seek and represent the views of residents.
We organise meetings on topics of interest to residents to keep them informed and ensure a lively interest in the town.
We organise the TCA August Youth Activities, a summer programme of activities for children and young people.
In 2014, with the support of the people of Topsham and Exeter City Council, we revitalised the Recreation Ground for the benefit of all residents - and threw a great party, RecFest, to celebrate!
