General information
Ford Castle is a real outdoor centre for schools based in a real, 14th century, medieval castle.
Famous for housing King James the IV of Scotland and before the battle of Flodden in 1513 and Edward I ("Longshanks") in around 1295
Since then, notable occupants have included Lady Waterford, famous watercolourist and Victorian benefactress who re-built the village of Ford including the School, which still displays her paintings - for which she used locals as models.
More recently, the Joicey family has owned the Castle as part of the Ford & Etal Estate, until in 1956 the Castle was leased to Northumberland County Council for use as a residential educational centre for groups of local schoolchildren.
Ford Castle is has been operated by Ford Castle Adventure Ltd., a private company specialising in school tours, since 2012.
