Rush Farm Childrens Garden

General information

Rush Farm Children's Garden is located on an organic farm in a beautiful setting. The building is in a purposely converted stable block, but much of our work/play is outdoors and on outings to local sites of interest in the area. We currently offer a flexi-school project which is parent-teacher led and includes a chance for a small group of children to explore the world at their own pace with the careful supervision of an experienced teacher. Our approach is inspired by Steiner Waldorf education and so much of the learning that goes on is through in and outdoor play.

Children can learn to read and write very early but they can learn a little bit faster and more easily when they are a bit older and there are advantages to letting them grow up that little bit slower. When allowed to live in the world of play and protected from the abstracted symbolic thinking that is embodied in learning to read and write, educationalists have noticed that children develop better emotional intelligence and inter-personal communication, and they end up more centred, stronger and more resilient.
