Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve Company Information
General information
Knettishall Heath sits at the north of the county, near Thetford, in the heart of the Brecks, it is the largest of Suffolk Wildlife Trust's 50 nature reserves. Very few places are this special; its importance for wildlife is reflected in the fact that much of Knettishall Heath's 434 acres are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Thanks to the overwhelming support of Trust members and local people, we are now the proud custodians of Knettishall Heath, our largest nature reserve.
Knettishall Heath is an ancient place and echos of the past are etched into the landscape. The Bronze Age round barrow, Hut Hill dates from 2400-1500BC and the 120 mile Icknield Way, which starts at Knettishall Heath, is possibly the oldest route in Britain, dating back to 4000BC.
