Trousseau of Nottingham Company Information
General information
After completing my masters in Stage Design at The Slade School of Art in London I decided to start my own business in 1986. At that time Lace manufacturing was still a buoyant industry in my home town of Nottingham and most Lace was made into tablecloths curtains and garments .I had the idea that small items would prove a more personal and affordable keepsake . I began by exploring the versatility of Nottingham Lace in giftware expanding into Wedding and Baby celebration Gifts. Wherever possible sourcing elements such as Sheffield Pewter and locally knitted textile to accompany my items . We now work from The Gardener’s Cottage adjacent to Attewell House which has been our home for over 18 years. Since the beginning we have been proud to specialise in gifts hand made locally by our team of seamstresses. Enabling us to be flexible and creative in design and meticulous in production. I have built my business around the textile which is unique to my home town and over time this involvement has shaped my life immensely . Through colleagues who have become friends I met one of the last Lace Manufacturers in Nottingham and in the words of Emily Bronte....... ’Reader I married him’ (making my wedding dress from his lace). After so many years surrounded (quite literally) with Lace I really do feel part of this wonderful tradition. Once a great industry in Nottingham there are one or two factories who’s machines still run on. Proud to be part of our English Textile Heritage.
