EDA Frandsen Sailing Company Information
General information
Eda Frandsen is a beautiful traditional gaff cutter, built in 1939 in Denmark. She offers the finest traditional sailing in the Western Isles of Scotland, in Cornwall and the Westcountry. Come on your own, with a friend, partner or a whole group and explore some of the best sailing grounds, abundant wildlife, good food and company and fantastic sailing.
Sailing on Eda is a hands on experience, you can become involved in all aspects of running the boat as well as have time to sit back, relax and enjoy the surroundings. All trips include bedding, all meals using locally sourced fresh produce, wet weather and safety equipment and professional crew.
Never sailed before? that's not a problem, many people haven't, you'll receive a full briefing and Eda is very stable with large decks and plenty of space. Whether you are a beginner or experienced seafarer, there is plenty to do and we are happy to teach if you are interested to learn. All ages are welcome
Following a fully booked season in 2013, our 2014 schedule is available online and we already are taking bookings for voyages. If you are interested or would like to find out more about sailing on Eda, the best way is to call or email us or visit or website www.eda-frandsen.co.uk
James MacKenzie and Becky Treneer are the owners of Eda taking her over in September 2012, and are continuing to operate her in a very similar role that she has been as a successful charter boat. Between us, we have worked on many traditional boats, are friendly and outgoing and really looking forward to welcoming guests on Eda. Both of us will be onboard and Chloe our fabulous Cook will also be cooking up a storm in the galley!
An experienced skipper, shipwright and furniture maker, James is looking forward to running and sailing Eda from 2013. Having lived in the Caribbean a while on his own boat, completed 5 Atlantic crossings, 1 single handed James has extensive sailing experience, a Yachtmaster Instructor and a pretty good cook too!
Becky has been involved with traditional boats from an early age, from a sailing family in Falmouth, sailing working boats to Tall Ships, most recently working as 1st mate on traditional charter vessels and sail training boats as well as Atlantic and pacific sailing.Qualified as a Yachtmaster Offshore, Bec is happiest when bouncing around the foredeck, and is looking forward to sharing some of her favourite Westcountry sailing spots with you as well as explore the delights of the Western Isles.
Eda started life as a Danish fishing vessel and in the 1990s was discovered by her previous owners, who took her to Scotland, rebuilt and fitted her our for her current use as a charter vessel. A gaff cutter rig was chosen, with a large yet versatile sail area, rather than a ketch rig that would have been favoured for fishing.
After a major fire ashore in 1993, she was extensively rebuilt by the owners, which involved a team of volunteers, lots of hard work and determination, and 3 years later Eda was launched.
Beautifully kept and maintained, the level of craftsmanship and detail is first class.
