FalTech GPS Company Information
General information
FalTech are specialists in the provision of GPS satellite signals inside any indoor space where signal wouldn’t normally be available.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system based on a network (or constellation) of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defence. The service is available 24/7 anywhere in the world; it works in all weather conditions and there are no fees or charges to use it.
However, the signal strength is poor at ground level – the signals have to travel approx. 12,500 miles from the satellites down to earth. This means that in most cases it is not possible to use a GPS receiver indoors because the building structure prevents the ingress of signal.
Using a system based on a GPS repeater unit with an outdoor antenna, it is possible to receive, amplify and re-radiate GPS signal inside any building or indoor space. This means that the manufacturing, testing and servicing of any GPS-enabled device can be carried out indoors in areas where previously there was no signal available.
Repeaters are available to cover the L1, L2 and GLONASS frequencies, with an IP67 waterproof option for areas with high moisture levels.
One single repeater unit can cover an area with a radius of approximately 35 metres when placed at a height of 10 metres, for example in the roof space of an aircraft hangar.
When signal is required in more than one area/space/unit within a building, multiple repeaters can be connected to a single outdoor antenna by use of splitter and/or amplifier modules.
GPS repeaters can be used both below and on ground level, supporting a variety of roles and industries.
Here are some examples of situations that in which a GPS repeater can make all the difference:
- Fire stations - ensures that mobile data terminals in the appliances have a GPS signal at all times, eliminating satellite acquisition delay upon exit.
- Police stations - similar to the fire station requirement; ensures that officers' portable radios have a signal when inside and command centres always know where their assets are.
- Aircraft hangars - no need to drag that aeroplane outside to test its GPS system; our repeaters are used in aircraft hangars all over the world to bring the outdoor signal inside where it's needed.
- Electronics companies - repeaters provide a live GPS signal in their workshops; much more convenient and time-efficient than hauling equipment outside to the car park, or hanging it out of the window to get a signal.
In 2012 FalTech GPS was appointed UK reseller for technology innovators and manufacturers ROGER-GPS, based in Helsinki, Finland. The majority of systems provided by FalTech are based on Roger-GPS technology.
FalTech GPS is also a supplier of Iridium repeater systems that provide voice and data services to satphone users inside buildings, hangars, ships and bunkers.
The Iridium constellation is a truly global system, consisting of 66 low-Earth orbit satellites, but use of its services is usually limited to outdoor locations for the same reasons as the GPS system described above. An Iridium repeater system allows indoor use of satphone devices up to 3Km from the outdoor antennas.
