The Merrie Harriers Company Information
General information
The Merrier Harriers was originally a hunting lodge owned by Sir James Duke and dates from 1624, it is a grade II listed building, originally standing in 20 acres of ground, with a livery and bait stable used by passing horsemen. It also used to be a meeting place for the East Sussex Hounds, where it is believed the name was chosen from when it became an inn.
It has been an Inn for many years and has a lot of interesting features, including a window from the old Cowbeech church that sit between the two bars. Although extended and modernised over the years, the bars have their original beams and an inglenook fireplace is situated in the public bar.
