General information
The Museum of The Royal Regiment of Scotland opened to the public in April 2014. It is co-located with The Royal Scots Museum in Edinburgh Castle. The display tells the story of The Royal Regiment of Scotland since its formation in 2006 and focuses on two main themes; an operational theme which uses the strapline “Courage under Fire” to inform the public about the Regiment’s operational service in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and in support of the United Nations in Cyprus and the second theme that concentrates on a “Soldier’s Life”. Training for operations, sport, ceremonial duty and the many facets that give a soldier the opportunity to develop fitness, as well as team and leadership skills are displayed. The display is designed to showcase the modern Scottish soldier who are the proud successors to Scotland’s world famous infantry regiments
The museum office, regimental library and archive are all located in in the Regimental Headquarters of The Royal Regiment of Scotland in Edinburgh Castle. The archive consists of records relating to the formation and service of the Regiment and includes printed, digital and audio material. The archives are accessible to researchers by prior appointment only.
