Rhubarb Company Information
General information
James Thomson’s Rhubarb is the most opulent of his restaurants to date, with all the gourmet delight, drama and romance you expect from the creator of The Witchery by the Castle.
Decadent, stylish and very, very, glamorous, Rhubarb occupies a pair of spectacular oval rooms at the heart of the historic and lavishly restored Prestonfield. Alongside are a collection of chic bars and salons for cocktails, drinks or afternoon tea and some even more sumptuous drawing rooms in which to enjoy coffee and liqueurs.
Exceptional Scottish produce, much sourced from small artisan suppliers, is handled with terrific skill and flair creating a gourmet destination with a reputation among the capital’s most memorable dining experiences.
Rhubarb has a range of menus including a la carte and a very special dining offer – 3 courses at either lunch or dinner for just £36. There is also a fantastic two-course lunch menu at just £20 and traditional 2 course Sunday lunch for just £20.
Highlights include Orkney brown crab – Crab and sweetcorn cocktail, seaweed popcorn, diakon radish and pink grapefruit salad with crab vinaigrette; Venison – Roast roe deer loin; haunch pie and haggis, salt-baked beetroot, red cabbage purée, confit purple potato, semi-dried cherries, pink peppercorn jus; Turbot – Fillet of turbot cooked on the bone in seaweed butter, smoked eel beignets, pickled seasonal mushrooms, young leeks, langoustine: bisque, powder and confit potatoes; Asparagus – New season green and white asparagus, morels, duck yolk ravioli, truffle gnocchi and crispy shallots and Douglas Fir, Crowdie and lemon – Katy Rodger’s Crowdie ripple with home-made marmalade, lemon drizzle cake, pine nuts, Douglas Fir sherbet and ice cream.
To accompany such accomplished cooking Prestonfield has an award-winning cellar and temptation lurks in the wine list of over 800 bins. From famous name wines for very special occasions to a hand-picked selection of 14 wines available by the glass, you’ll find your ideal dining companion within Rhubarb’s acclaimed list.
And the name? Rhubarb celebrates the achievement of Sir Alexander Dick of Prestonfield who introduced rhubarb to Scotland in the 18th century, receiving a medal from the Royal Society for his endeavour. Rhubarb still grows at Prestonfield today and often features on the menu.
