Medwyn Surgery is located in the market town of Dorking and is a member of Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group. The practice has existed in Dorking for over half a century. Dorking nestles in the narrow valley between Greensand Hills to the south and the chalk hills of the North Downs. From almost anywhere within Dorking there are glimpses out towards the Surrey Hills. This provides a dramatic backdrop to the day-to-day activities of the town.

Dorking is a market town in the best tradition of English rural towns. It has always been and still is a vibrant community. The people that live and work here have a pride in their community and the fabric of places, streets and buildings that give the town its special identity and sense of place.

The practice can trace its foundations back the 1900’s. The Practice has a very clear objective in wanting to provide patients with the highest possible standard of primary healthcare; not only medical care, but also in terms of health information and awareness, the environment from which they deliver their services and in the Doctor/Patient relationship. It is a PMS practice.

The Partners are proud of the services they provide and of the good practice they are known for, all delivered from a new and purpose built one stop health centre, completed in 2006. The Centre now houses Medwyn Surgery, as well as a 4-seat NHS dentist, physiotherapy, podiatry, community staff, conference facilities, a pharmacy, audiometry and a range of services delivered by a number of sessional medical practitioners.

The Practice has signed up to provide the widest range of Local and Direct Enhanced Services to its patients and offers extended opening hours on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Medwyn Surgery serves around 10,600 patients and this is rising steadily, partly due to population growth in the area and partly due to the impressive and obvious presence of its excellent facilities.

The facilities in the new surgery are amongst the best primary care can offer and provide for the expansion of services and the development of new business opportunities. The Centre is entirely disabled friendly, has CCTV and comfort cooling as well automated check in and patient calling facilities. The space is fresh, bright and well fitted and this all contributes to a first class working environment.

The Practice is a five Doctor Partnership. The Partners are:

The Practice is a training practice and has two GP registrars and ST1/2 doctors under training. Dr Monella, Dr Tomlinson and Dr Sekhon are qualified trainers and are responsible for the training of the GP trainees. The Practice also hosts up to 10 attachments per annum of medical students from St George’s medical school, as well as Paramedic Practitioners from SE Coast Ambulance Service.

The Practice Manager is Mrs. Nanette Nobes and she is supported by a full complement of support staff, including:

A Deputy Practice Manager who supports all occupants of the building with IT and associated issues
Two teams of receptionists – one to support the GP surgery and one to support other tenants who occupy the first and second floors of the Centre.

A medical records administrator
An occupational health nurse who works with the Practice’s private OH clients
A book keeper who assists the Practice Business Manager with aspects of the organisation’s finance routines

There are 4 Practice Nurses who provide nursing, travel and treatment room services and are specially trained in the management of chronic diseases. Three Health Care Assistants assist the nurses and provide phlebotomy services, BP checks, ECGs etc.

The Practice has support staff including District Nurses, Health Visitors, Midwives and a counsellor.

Patients use the Internet site to book appointments on line and to order repeat prescriptions. The practice also has Patient Partner which is an automated booking system.
