Charminster Pre School

General information

Charminster Pre-school is a well-established charity run Pre-school which has been operating since 1971.

We are located within the grounds of St Mary’s First School in a purpose built log cabin. The light and airy play room is well resourced with specific areas dedicated to arts, crafts and messy play, role play, reading , computing and construction. The toys and activities are changed weekly to provide fresh interest and challenge for the children.

We have a large enclosed outdoor area. The spacious main garden is designed to benefit the children's physical development. It has a lawn, agility area , lookout, den building corner, construction site, outdoor kitchen and a wide range of outdoor resources which are changed on a weekly basis. The covered patio in the main garden ensures that outdoor play is still accessible in poor weather. The side garden is a dedicated growing garden where the children grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers. The pathways and central area of the growing garden are gravelled, providing an excellent year-round surface for outdoor play in all weathers. We also have access to the copse bordering the school playing field and run twice weekly forest school sessions on this site.

We have close links with St Mary’s First School, Charminster. The children in their final Pre-school year participate in a range of school based activities which support their transition into the reception class.
