The Journey May 2010

Our journey started when a young future professional hairdresser called Ed said he had a dream to go to Africa and work with children. So it began...

In the summer of 2009, the huge task of raising £10,000 for a trauma center to be built in the Ubombo Child Care Center in South Africa begun.

In May 2010, Debs and I sat in the Ubombo Child Care Centre, after spending two amazing weeks building a Trauma centre with a young team of professional hairdressers: Jake, Jodie, Pete and Ed, with two young boys sitting on my lap sobbing their hearts out because they believed they would never see us again!

So what do you do? Sit there and become another adult in their world that lets them down or do you whisper in their ear "I'll see you in August" and make the thirty hour journey.

That day my journey had just begun!

The COCO'S company is committed to the continuous support of the Ubombo Children's Care Centre and the care of twenty-one beautiful children through the CoCo's Foundation.

'Sometimes in life when you start something, you don't know where it will take you, but you have great fun times following the path'.

Returning, I had mixed emotions, would they remember us? Would all the children still be alive and well?

Walking through the gate after a thirty hour journey it was 7pm in the evening and dark. I could see a little figure walk across from the dormitory to the dining area and hear the noise of crutches on the ground. It was Phumlani a little orphaned boy that had been left for dead when at six he was playing out on the street and got hit by an armed vehicle which broke his back.

Without your donations this would never have been possible to help boys like Phumlani.

The CoCo's Foundation is now out in the community building Houses for Child-headed family's and supporting them with our three projects -
