General information

The Carers Centre for Brighton and Hove is an independent charity providing invaluable information, support and activities to unpaid carers living throughout the city and beyond.

The Carers Centre for Brighton & Hove was established in 1988. Working with family and informal carers resident within the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove.
A carer is defined as “Anyone who spends a significant proportion of their life-time providing unpaid support to family or friends. This could be caring for a partner, relative or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.” (National Carers Strategy 2008)
Our aim is to make a positive difference to the lives of carers by encouraging wider recognition of their caring role; enabling them to fulfil their own needs as individuals and offering them appropriate support. To do this our team of fifteen full and part-time staff, over 100 volunteers and a pool of sessional workers offer advice, support, activities and respite to hundreds of unpaid carers each year.
The Carers Centre is overseen by a Board of Trustees made up of local volunteers and are independent from the local authorities and NHS services.
