The Blackthorn Band

General information

Blackthorn perform their melodic brand of Irish, Scottish and English traditional music in concerts and for ceilidhs at festivals, arts centres, folk clubs, weddings and private functions all around Southern England and beyond. All the band are multi instrumentalists and singers, and a provide a varied and traditional feel to the music, songs and dances. Fergus and Mannie McClelland have been performing traditional music for many years, and were founder members in 1995. Sarah Mooney joined in 1999, and they are often joined on gigs by Jacquelyn Hynes (flute), Alex Percy (fiddle, guitar), Kat Hurdley. (fiddle, flute).

The band has played at Folk Festivals (Sidmouth, Cornwall, Crawley, Shoreham), Folk clubs, Arts Centres (Arts Depot, Ropetackle, Royal Albert Hall - in the restaurant!) In Castles, in fields, in summerhouses, in many ordinary people's houses (and some strange) and for the Law Society and three lords of the realm, We've also twice played in Germany and in Ireland (Belfast and Co Galway).
