Extratime

General information

Extratime is the brain child of two families, both of whom have children with complex disabilities. Becky Jenner and Marian Tipler, frustrated at the lack of out-of-school activities for their own children, spent 2 years planning and working voluntarily to develop an inclusive after-school club for children with and without disabilities.
extratime@hillside opened in September 2003 - the first setting of its kind to offer affordable inclusive after-school play. This was quickly followed by the venues in Woodingdean (Woody) and St Luke's school in central Brighton. The clubs offer a great range of activities complemented by visitors providing face-painting, balloon modelling, drama workshops, music etc. We have even brought a farm to the children on occasions !
The after-school clubs offer a safe, stimulating and above all fun environment. Our children are keen to attend and our parent/carers can relax knowing they are well looked after.
As well as having a positive impact on the families of children wth disabilities, the clubs help positively influence the atitudes and opinions of all children attending about living in an inclusive society.
In addition to the clubs, extratime run play schemes over the Easter and summer holidays at each of the three venues.
More recently, Extratime has worked with Sussex Central YMCA to provide youth schemes for young people aged 11 to 19 years at two mainstream youth venues - YMCA Marmion Road and the Crew Club - in the Easter and summer holidays, and the 3 half term holidays, funded by Brighton & Hove City Council.
