BS Orphan

General information

BS Orphan was established to help provide access to care for patients with certain rare diseases who live in either UK Ireland or the Netherlands. Medications to treat patients with rare diseases may be unavailable for various reasons including: Those still in clinical development and that have yet to be approved for marketing Some may never be approved but still have medicinal value for a very small population Some are approved in one country but not another Because they are no longer marketed in a particular country In such situations medications may be available under special license. In this setting the prescribing doctor assumes personal responsibility for their use. EU law prohibits their promotion to patients or healthcare professionals. BS Orphan is currently providing medical information and clinical support for programmes to treat selected inherited metabolic disorders such as Wilson's Disease and Congenital Sucrase Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID) A library of scientific information is available to physicians pharmacists specialist nurses and other healthcare workers upon request. This includes information relating to formulary support.
