Established independently towards the end of 2015 by Kevin Smith, formerly a joint managing director of a similar private architectural design practice working on private design commissions for residential and small commercial developments, Contour Designs is an independent privately owned architectural design practice serving Canvey Island and the vicinity whose aim is to provide a personal architectural and development consultancy service to the public and private sectors. Kevin is supported by his son, Simon Cope; who, having run his own private practice for 11 years and has been employed in public and private practices, including a development company, brings a solid understanding of the area to the design team. Providing overall depth to the Company, Kevin and Simon are also pleased to welcome Carl Brampton to the practice, bringing complimentary knowledge of the design and build process to the team.

Contour Designs focus on the core business of Architecture but bring 3D modelling, structural design capabilities, flood risk assessments and response plans, topographical surveys, Town Planning and Building Regulations and certificates of lawfulness as value added services to you, our client. The in-house team is split into two specific areas, the concept and design team, and the technical team; bringing between them 70 years combined buildings experience . Both areas are overseen by the Directors. Contour Designs can apply a breadth of expertise to your project seldom matched by our competitors supported by 45 years combined architectural experience, 20 years facilities and project management, and 18 years and 3 years valuable experience in local authority building control and building surveyor respectively.

The creative and innovative in-house design team utilise the latest CAD software available and 3D modelling software. This ensures that all concepts can be presented to clients, financiers, planners and the professional team (where necessary) in a three dimensional virtual built form, maximising understanding at every level. Designs can be brought to life by creating fully rendered models, where developments can be viewed in an ‘as built’ form from any angle or view. The result is a seamless progression from inception to detail design where the client and their team will have total confidence.

Following the creative concepts produced by the design team, Contour Design’s highly skilled technical team pride themselves on their knowledge of the build process and construction techniques. The team constantly strive to provide effective and concise construction information that not only ensures a smooth build but also keeps your project within budget. By constantly liaising between the two in-house teams, and where necessary external consultants, our company ensures that the agreed concepts in the design phase will ensure that the technical drawings mirror the exact same information as the concept, demonstrating that the project can be approved and built in reality.
