In 1926 Mr Henry Bubb ESQ.JP purchased land in Bennington St for the purpose of building a Spiritualist church and on October 27th 1926 he himself laid the foundation stone.
It was completed during the following spring, and on Friday 3rd June (exactly 5 years after the Cheltenham Spiritualist Society had been inaugurated) the door of the Church was unlocked by Mr Bubb at 8am, in accordance with astrological calculations. The Society then changed its name to Cheltenham Spiritualist Church. The first morning service was conducted by Mr W R Sharp, of Coventry, and in the evening the building was dedicated by Mr E W Oaten.
