The Rusland Movement Furniture:

Taking inspiration from the people and work of the Arts and Crafts period, the designers and cabinet makers at The Rusland Movement produce beautiful furniture that is built to be used for many years. All our pieces are crafted to the same high standards that would have been expected of the Arts and Crafts furniture makers, whose work is a widely recognised benchmark for quality.

While having elements of other styles, The Rusland Movement furniture has a simple elegant form of its own. Our furniture is designed by those who really understand how the materials work. The designers are the makers. They have the creativity to imagine beautiful new forms, plus, the essential technical knowledge to design properly constructed, beautiful and unique furniture.

Furniture can be commissioned from our existing designs, many of which are on show at The Rusland Movement gallery in Greenodd, or, you could have these designs tailored to your own requirements. However, if you want something truly unique, our designers can work with you to produce something really special, something fully bespoke. This is a wonderful way to commission furniture as you can contribute to the development of the idea as much as you like. To be involved in an idea physically taking shape, from pencil drawings and 3D computer models to a finished bespoke object, is a hugely rewarding process.

Being based on the edge of the Lake District, we are inspired by our environment and help to look after it as much as we can. We use local suppliers and work alongside other local craftspeople. The woods of the Rusland valley and the landscape of the surrounding area help maintain the connection we have with materials we use.

Modern cabinet making:

Cabinet making is a craft that has always required the worker to understand the materials, and master the tools and best techniques of the time. Our cabinet makers are no exception, their attention to detail and quality, and skilled use of hand tools and machinery clearly shows in every piece.

We are proud of the construction techniques we use and as such, many of the details seen in our designs are integral parts of the structure. This might be an age old jointing method such as a wedged mortice and tenon joint, or a new construction idea we have developed ourselves. We are always striving to improve and refine the way we work, but are well aware that techniques which have developed over the centuries are often the best.

Kitchens:

A Rusland Movement kitchen is designed and built with the same care and attention as all our other furniture. All our kitchens are bespoke, therefore there is no limit to what is possible. We use high quality materials and finishes to ensure they can stand the test of time.

Our kitchens have a wonderfully refined and balanced aesthetic, and thanks to our experienced designers, are always practical working spaces. As our designers are the same people who will hand craft and install a kitchen, we can be sure that the whole process is seamless.

Housed in the inspiring gallery space of The Rusland Movement in Greenodd is a collection of work from some fine artisans.
