Wigfield Farm

General information

Wigfield Farm has three main functions:

A working farm producing livestock,

A base for Barnsley College courses in Horticulture and Animal care,

An Open Farm and Visitors Centre accessible to the local and wider community.

The farm is situated approximately 2 miles south west of Barnsley next to Worsbrough Country Park.

Although farm staff are employed, the day to day work of the farm is undertaken by students following one of our many programmes of study thus providing a realistic working environment in which to develop their skills and knowledge.
Seasonal plants are often available for sale at competetive prices.
Wigfield 'open' farm is situated on the Dove Valley Trail section of the Trans-Pennine Trail, and provides a perfect visitor attraction at which to refresh yourself in our cafe and shop facility.
The farm has a wide range of animals including meerkats, cows, goats, Shetland ponies,donkeys, alpacas, pigs, sheep, chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits and much more. We also have a rodent room and an aquatics room featuring many different varieties of fish and other aquatic life.
There is also an exotics room with a variety of reptiles which although it isn't open to the public, people do get to view them at public events, birthday parties, organised group visits or as part of a VIP experience.
We do birthday parties, school visits, VIP meerkat, reptile and rabbit experiences, we do animal adoptions and enclosure sponsorships and we take animals to care homes and nurseries. We can provide gift vouchers and we also hold a variety of activities and events throughout the year.
