In the early 1950s, newly-weds Rosa and Calogero Tarallo were amongst the thousands of Italians who travelled from Italy to Britain in search of a new life. Small pockets of Italian communities sprang up all over Britain and the Tarallos settled in just such a community with their two young sons, Giuseppe and
Salvatore. After many years living in England they missed the traditional Italian food they had grown up with, so the couple opened La Bottega (which means
‘shop’ in Italian) in 1975; a small delicatessen importing fresh and seasonal Italian food. Years later, sons Salvatore and Giuseppe joined La Bottega and the business relocated and expanded to provide a wholesale service, supplying many restaurants and hotels in Bath.
