The Rug Souk is founded by Martin and Kathy Dady from Birmingham, UK. Martin first visited Morocco over 35 years ago to climb Mount Toubkal and promptly fell in love with the country and its people. Since marrying, they have spent many happy holidays exploring Morocco and have subsequently made it their home for the last 6 years. Living in a Berber village and experiencing local life and culture has consolidated their passion for all things Moroccan, not least the beautiful expressive nature of the rugs produced by the women of the Atlas Mountain villages.

Travelling extensively around Morocco, they have curated their own covetable collection of vintage Moroccan textiles – rugs, belts, shawls – as well as a diverse range of other fascinating artefacts. These will soon be available via The Rug Souk to purchase online. They have also curated a stunning collection of antique and vintage Amazigh (Berber) jewellery which will also soon be available to purchase online via their sister site, Berber Jewellery.

The Rug Souk specialises in tribal art rugs from all regions of Morocco as well as classic Ait Ouaouzguite rugs from the Taznakht region – representing the different tribal facets of Morocco. The patterns woven into each rug reflect the life of the woman weaving it – including symbols of birth, life, family and the natural world. Each rug has been personally selected by Martin and Kathy and they have only chosen rugs that they themselves love! They are committed to providing authentic handmade quality rugs of a vintage nature and are excited to be sharing their knowledge and passion for these stunning rugs with you via The Rug Souk.
