The Dedham Centre Tea Rooms Company Information
General information
Dedham Art & Craft Centre is situated in the heart of Constable Country on the Essex/Suffolk border. Housed in a converted church in this popular village, the Centre exudes historic charm and is the perfect place to visit, shop and eat. Three floors showcase the work of more than 60 artisans and the inspired buying skills of specialist retailers – a paradise to explore for the casual browser and enthusiastic shopper.
The original Congregational Chapel was built in 1738, then demolished to make way for the larger, existing building in 1871. In 1925, it became a United Reform Church, but finally closed in 1979 due to the dwindling congregation.
Peter Andrew submitted plans for the conversion of the church to an art & craft centre in 1980, but unfortunately he passed away a month before it opened in 1984. The Centre has changed a great deal since then, but it is still home to an eclectic mix of artisans and specialist retailers.
