The redesign was based on a "Local Pub" but with a "Town Centre" modern Bar Aspect which has proved to be very successful. Lyn Foster and her husband Lee Manage this lively and welcoming Pub and always strive to ensure all our guests are comfortable and enjoy our Warm and Friendly Henighans Hospitality.

Henighans Bury Road, is much more than just a regular Pub! In March 2011 Henighans Purchased the property and began an extensive program of refurbishing this fantastic building. The concept was to create a Multi Functional Pub/Venue that would appeal to all with a Sports Bar/Tap Room, a separate Lounge/Restaurant and an elevated outside Patio area to enjoy the Great British Weather. The work was completed some months later and the results are amazing. Over the past 3 years the Pub/Venue has become very popular with music lovers and is now recognised as one of the North Wests leading Live Music Venues with a Busy weekend crowd watching some of the UK's biggest Tribute Bands, see our "Whats On" page for up and coming Gigs. In our Sports Bar/Tap Room you can see all the latest Sport and in our Restaurant you can "Try Thai" or Great British Food from Henighans Award Winning Thai Kitchen.

Astley Bridge - Redevelopment - www.henighans.com
The Three Pigeons Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge fell on hard times some years ago and eventually closed it doors for good in September 2011. In the good old days this popular community local pub was a thriving successful establishment but coupled with the smoking ban, beer escalator tax (government yearly Tax on Beer as it was) and one of the worst recessions this country has ever seen trade declined and the building became dilapidated, closed down and de-licenced. The Pub then made it’s sorry way to the auction house (as many do) and then probably onto a complete change of use. Well that’s what was supposed to happen until Nick Howcroft (Henighans MD) drove past and saw the auction sign and also the buildings potential. The large and imposing building was bought prior to auction by Henighans and planning consultation was then carefully carried out in conjunction with Bolton Council Planning Department and local councillors to decide the future of the property. After much discussion it was agreed that part of this large building could be converted into “The Island Apartments” (7 separate modern apartments) and the oldest part of the property dating back to 1804 would become a new Henighans Public House as the planners wanted to keep some form of retail use from the building and also valued its key Landmark location within Astley Bridge.

Henighans then set to work at the task in hand. The whole building is currently undergoing refurbishment and the new carefully refurbished historic public house will be due to re-open during 2015. Once the refurbishment has been completed this Sensational New (with a few twists) Henighans Bar & Restaurant will create 15 new jobs for the area, boast a great range of 6 locally brewed Traditional Ales along with a large selection of competitively priced Wines, Spirits and Lagers, the pub will even feature a themed restaurant on the first floor of the building along with regular live music events at the weekends on the ground floor.

Many years ago the pubs original name was The Lawsons Arms named after local landowners the Lawson Family from the Astley Bridge area. Locals believe a former Landlord of the pub decided to change the name of the public house and mistakenly identifying the three swallows adorning the Lawson coat of arms as pigeons, hence the name The Three Pigeons.
