General information
Freemasonry in Dorset can trace its history as back as 1736 to the creation of a lodge in Weymouth. The Masonic Province of Dorset was established in 1780.
Dorset Freemasonry has flourished since then and we now have 49 Lodges meeting at 18 centres across our beautiful county. We are just one of 47 Masonic "Provinces" under the authority of the United Grand Lodge of England.
Our membership consists of close to 3000 men from all ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds, regularly meeting in harmony and friendship.
We share a common bond from the unique experience of being “made Masons”. As Freemasons we are encouraged to observe moral and spiritual guidelines and to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of ourselves as upright and respectable citizens.
