General information
Orfund was established as a Christian charity in 1984 to help orphaned and destitute children who need to be looked after.
Orfund is not responsible for the care of the children but provides financial support to people who share our Christian values and provide for the care and education of children in partnership with us.
Orfund raises money through fundraising and regular and one-off donations from people, some of whom sponsor individual children whom we are supporting.
Originally Orfund supported homes in India and in 2001 it established a partnership with Isaac and Ruth Banda who run the Molima Family Home in Dedza, Malawi.
Over the years Orfund has supported a number of homes and helped many children to enjoy a much better quality of life and education than they would otherwise have had. Since April 2015, Orfund has focused exclusively on Malawi which is currently the 3rd poorest country in the world.
For nearly 30 years Orfund was run by its founder, Geoff Phillips, and two other trustees who were members of his family. In 2013 they agreed that it was time to hand over the reins and a new board of trustees was appointed to take responsibility for running Orfund.
