General information

Who runs the RRSG?
A small staff of paid workers supported by a large team of volunteers. These are a combination of people from the local community and refugees themselves.

What does the RRSG do?
We aim to provide a comprehensive, practical support system for refugees in Reading. Our aim is to ensure that they are aware of, and that they benefit from, their rights by using our service.
We offer:
Information and advice
Advocacy
Access to services such as housing, healthcare, education and training
Practical help, e.g. providing furniture and clothing
Interpreting
Social events

Why do we do what we do?
Refugees often arrive in Britain with nothing, having been forced to flee their homeland in difficult and terrifying circumstances. A major problem faced by refugees is the language barrier. This adds to the isolation they experience, prevents them receiving their legal entitlements and reduces access to services. Most refugees have a good education and professional background but experience great difficulty in finding employment and using their skills. We aim to offer them everything they need to integrate into Reading life.

How can I help?
There are several ways you can help the RRSG:
Volunteer - there are frequent volunteering opportunities here. If you want to help out with a one-off event or contribute your time more regularly, just get in touch.
Donate - you can send a single donation, or set up a direct debit, via our website.
