Reading Rockets

General information

Rockets was founded in 1997 and has achieved huge success with its Senior, Junior, Academy and Community development programmes and is now privileged to run the AASE (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) programme. Rockets is now one of the most successful clubs in England and established its Rockets Sport and Educational Foundation charity in 2012. It has gained Sport England’s kitemark ‘ClubMark’ and England Basketball’s 4 star accreditation.

The heart of the Rockets club is passion, vision, quality, motivation and commitment – unified with family values and standards. The Senior Men’s and Ladies’ teams play their home games at the Rivermead Leisure Complex in Reading and are comprised of players with experience of the USA game, Europe and of National Senior Divisions coupled to young blood. Our vision of facilitating opportunities for youngsters to come up through the ranks of the junior section and play in the Senior National League has been realized bringing much reward to coaches, mentors and players alike.

The Senior teams represent the target for the youngsters that are coached each week in the healthy lifestyle, community and satellite club programme. Rockets takes children from complete beginners, then coaches and develops their individual talent with team dynamics.

The Senior Men’s team completed its most successful season ever in 08-09 by winning all four national championships and by winning every game. In the 2013-14 season they did the treble and were Play Off Championship finalists. Rockets’ Ladies won the Division 2 southern league in 2013-14, whilst the girls programme is growing fast. As a stepping stone into the Senior Men’s team, there is a National Basketball Development League side and many opportunities via Rockets’ academies at the John Madejski Academy, the Henley College, Reading College and Park House School.
